Dana Belott

Dana Belott is a genderqueer poet, musician, and teacher. In their work, Dana investigates the way in which trauma disrupts the connection between self and body. The collection they're working on, titled night terrors, exposes these lasting effects of trauma in order to retrieve scattered segments of the self and track a journey toward wholeness. Dana has been playing classical guitar and writing music since childhood, but has only recently begun collapsing barriers between their poetry and music work. They hope to use this residency to more deeply weave these practices together. An astrologer and tarot reader, Dana also integrates these spiritual lenses into their creative process. They dream of hosting workshops that combine creative prompts, spiritual work, and collaboration.

As a teacher, Dana is passionate about equity and the healing potential of creative expression. For over four years, Dana designed and taught writing curriculum to middle and high school students in San Francisco, publishing over fifty volumes of their students work. They have recently relocated back to the east coast to reconnect with their roots.
