SPACES, FACILITIES & ACCOMODATION

  • On May 9th, 2014 Arts Letters & Numbers acquired the house on the hill above the mill. Built in 1859, this house previously served as the original mill owner’s residence. Now it will become the residence for Arts Letters & Numbers ongoing programs.

  • In the summer of 2018, we took another significant step in the growth of Arts Letters & Numbers. Thanks to the support of a dear friend of ALN, the two multi-family houses across the street from the House on the Hill are now a part of our campus. The two identical houses, which we have come to call the Twin Houses, used to be housing for the workers of Faith Mills.

  • The Grounds are extensive, including numerous open spaces for artistic exploration and experimentation. These have played and continue to play an integral role in the performances, events and works of Arts Letters & Numbers. Comprised of horizontal as well as vertical spaces, they offer engagement with a wide variety of terrain, surfaces and vegetation. All the exterior areas are connected by a path through the woods, which runs from the House on the Hill down to the Mill.

  • ‘The Studios’ are the most recent expansion of Arts Letters & Numbers facilities. This 7,300 sq./ft space, within one of the former Faith Mills buildings, offers beautiful light and large working spaces to support all of our programs. About half of the new studios are a large open space perfect for large format works and installations, and the other half is composed of multiple individual rooms surrounding a collective assembly hall.

  • The Barn is an auxiliary space adjacent to the House and the upper lawn. This flexible indoor-outdoor space serves a variety of functions, hosting a multitude of events this past summer, from poetry readings to opera, lectures to community dinners. In the winter months two wood-burners will make it a temporary concert venue, lecture hall, staging area or gallery.

  • The Mill was once a textile storehouse, part of the historic Faith Mills, and was in operation between 1829 - 1966. At its peak, the Faith Mills harnessed the power of the Wynantskill River and was one of the premier textile factories in the area. The Mill complex was incorporated into the Sand Lake Historical Society in 2005. Since 2011, the Mill serves as the main working space of Arts Letters & Numbers, and has become the site of the renewed transformation and the convergence of multiple disciplines.
