Steven Lawrence

Steve comes from a diverse background of craft, arts, education and psychology. Originally from Upstate, New York, he owned and operated his own plumbing and heating contracting company until he began international teaching at the age of thirty-one. While abroad he taught at expatriate schools in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and China. As an educator he worked with collaborators in the development of a range of curricular and extracurricular programs that fostered growth in the ‘whole person’, as well as graduate instruction for educators. Within the classroom he taught subjects in the humanities, theory of knowledge, and language arts, but eventually his affinity with the study and teaching of the mind and spirit drew him towards psychology - which he is now studying within the doctoral program of Saybrook University with a focus in transpersonalism, consciousness, and meditative psychology as treatment.

His One-Pointed Mind (OPM) program for students and educators explores how meditative practices prime the biological and psychological mechanisms of learning, and how their integration into educational settings present unique opportunities to transform learning in the 21st century. OPM has been presented in eight countries in both academic and professional institutions -  Steve considers the significance of this knowledge to be amongst the most important knowledge any individual can learn for both personal and collective growth and healing.

Facilities and program development, event coordination, residency support, local, regional, national and international collaborations all bring with them unique opportunities to support those that come to ALN for their own expressive interests. This new chapter at ALN is a culmination of his life’s work, and he looks forward to connecting with the people, programs and facilities to harness the unique opportunity that ALN is for so many.
