Arts Letters and Numbers is thrilled to announce the return of Craft 1o1, following its remarkable success last year. Craft 1o1 is a pioneering model of education grounded in an ethos defined by listening, mentorship, and collaboration. It brings a wide spectrum of practices, material, spatial, and poetic, into close proximity, with the goal of deepening experiences, relationships, and understanding.

We are overjoyed to share that our dear friend, Arts Letters and Numbers’ Founding Board Member and Visiting Artist, Bill Morrison, has officially been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short for his extraordinary film, “Incident.” Directed by Bill Morrison and produced by Jamie Kalven, “Incident” is a masterful work that has captivated audiences worldwide.

With the year drawing to a close, we’re filled with gratitude for our growing community and excitement to share a few words from our Founding Director & President, David Gersten, about a special milestone that celebrates where we’ve come from and the exciting future ahead.

This year has been an extraordinary period of growth, collaboration, and profound creativity at Arts Letters & Numbers. Our largest year ever, we held dozens of programs, events, openings, readings, concerts, film screenings, and programs, bringing over 300 program participants and residents and well over 1,000 visitors and guests to our campus. As we close out another transformative year, we reflect with gratitude and excitement on the milestones that have shaped our journey, and the individuals, communities, and partnerships, near and far, who have made it possible.

We are honored to share Anchor in the Landscape, the latest project by renowned photographer and activist Adam Broomberg (former Arts Letters & Numbers Visiting Artist), in collaboration with Rafael Gonzalez. 

We are excited to announce that Sarv Gersten’s article, A Point of View: Babette Mangolte’s The Camera: Je or La Camera: I (1977), has been published on Sabzian, an international film journal hailing from Belgium. 

We’re excited to announce the launch of “Happy Mondays & Wednesdays,” where you can enjoy our happy hour menu all evening long! Join us every Monday and Wednesday to unwind and enjoy your favorite dishes and drinks at special prices, perfect for gathering with friends or relaxing after a busy day.

We are thrilled to announce 24 Hours @ Once, a prototype six-hour video installation and live music performance delving into questions of human collectivity and temporality. This immersive prototype event will take place at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's CRAIVE Lab on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

We are thrilled to announce that Arts Letters & Numbers has acquired La Perla Restaurant & Gregory House Country Inn in Averill Park, NY! This marks a significant milestone, as we expand our campus and deepen our commitment to fostering creativity and community engagement. At ALN, food and community have been core to our mission from the start. The welcoming atmosphere of our artist residencies, workshops, and global and local conferences have been anchored by communal meals since our founding in 2011.

We are honored and excited to announce that long-time friend and visiting artist Anthony Titus has joined the Board of Directors of Arts Letters & Numbers. Anthony Titus was born in New York City in 1975, where he studied architecture and received a Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union. He completed his graduate studies in Fine Arts at the University of Chicago in 2001. Upon returning to New York City in 2001, he founded an independent studio of art and architectural practice and research.

Join us this Friday at 8am EST for an online lecture by Arts Letters & Numbers' founding director, David Gersten. Titled "Lenses, Mirrors & Eclipses: Inhabiting Disciplinary Geographies," this session is part of Rischée29 (Tajrish, Agha Bozorgi St, No. 31, Iran) Art Gallery's weekly lecture series, "Call Me by Name | A Video Installation in Three Parts." Don't miss this opportunity to delve into insightful discussions on interdisciplinary exploration and artistic perspectives. The lecture will also be open for attendance at the gallery's physical location in Iran.

Congratulations to our dear friend and collaborator Aleksandra Vrebalov, a visiting artist and teacher at Arts Letters & Numbers’ Creative Music Intensive, on receiving the 2024 Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition, recognizing outstanding achievement by a living composer. The award honors those who bring beauty and inspiration into the world, and we are thrilled to see Aleksandra’s contributions celebrated at this level.
