Eric M. C. Gonzalez
Eric M. C. Gonzalez is a composer, sound designer, and performer of music for film, theater, the concert hall, and beyond. Eric performs solo as Agleam, composing, playing and recording songs for electric cello, synthesizer, and vocals. Eric also plays electric cello and synth with the improv chamber goth band La Curandera and the Ritual. Eric maintains classical, contemporary, and extended technique performance practices, primarily on the electric cello. Eric is creator and writer of the science fiction comic book REACH, and has written collaboratively and solely on several theatrical productions.
Eric has composed music for Zeitgeist, No Exit New Music Ensemble, JACK Quartet, and more. Music and sound design for theater by Eric has been heard in Motherlanded, Brujeria for Beginners, Only I, 44 Plays for 44 Presidents, Tall Skinny Cruel Cruel Boys, Tingle Tangle, and more. Film music by Eric can be heard in A Fool’s Tango, the Rhode Island NetWorks Project, The Red End, and Stalled.
Eric was a Kulas Composer Fellow at Cleveland Public Theatre during their 2016–17 season. At Maelstrom Collaborative Arts’ (Theater Ninjas) in Cleveland, Ohio, Eric was an inaugural member of The Cadre, a team of creative producers leading the design and implementation of projects, in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, Eric was a Creative Workforce Fellow, a program of the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture, supported through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
Eric was Assistant to the Artistic Director of No Exit New Music Ensemble in Cleveland, Ohio from 2013 to 2017. In 2015 Eric founded the events-based string ensemble Forest City Chambers in Cleveland, where he was Director until 2017 when he moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Eric received a Bachelor’s Degree of Music in Composition at Cleveland State University where he also studied cello performance and film music, performing in the CSU Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Symphony, Experimental Music Ensemble, and more. In 2013, Eric received the Bain Murray Award for Composition from the Department of Music at Cleveland State University. Eric won the No Exit New Music Ensemble Student Composition Commission Competition in 2011 and 2013.
