Michaela Jolin
Michaela Jolin is a surface designer, and seamstress from Tucson Arizona. She moved to Averill Park in May of 2020 where she used the studios at ALN to start a small business designing and sewing custom clothing. Keeping sustainability in mind, she works with plant based fibers such as linen and hemp.
Jolin graduated in 2016 with her BFA in painting and a minor in costume design from the University of Arizona. Following her undergraduate education she joined Subspace Art Collective where she curated group community shows, created outreach education programs and continued her own studio practice. Her work has evolved to explore the concept of identity through the lens of fashion. Jolin is interested in how clothing and textiles are, at their most basic level, a technology - innovations which allowed survival and expansion of the human species and that were adapted to every environment. She is specifically interested in how subcultures uniquely identify and separate themselves from society at large using specific visual textile elements.
