Mallory Smith
I am an artist from New York living and working in Brooklyn. My practice is interdisciplinary and can range from printmaking to photography, drawing, clothing, and writing. My work is derived from constant and often involuntary analysis of relationships with intimacy; both my own as well as a wider view - especially within millennial and gen. z dynamics. As a result of increasing isolation, we can develop a fear of intimacy and touch depravity that leads to sexual/romantic violence. In part, my work is meant to connect people through an accessible visual language in an effort to communicate to these issues - most importantly to communicate with our lovers/friends more clearly as a foundation to solving larger issues. I received my BFA from Pratt Insitute in 2018, and shortly after I received a scholarship to study at Ox-Bow School of Art. In 2019 my work was on view at Chelsea gallery IPCNY (International Print Center Of New York), and currently at Site: Brooklyn gallery. I work out of my studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn on independent projects and participate in community open studios.
