Kristyna and Marek Milde


Kristyna and Marek Milde are Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artists and curators, originally from Prague, Czech Republic, working together as a collaborative tandem since 2011. Their work investigates diverse forms cultural mechanism, conventions, and codes of the modern lifestyle focusing on domesticity while investigating its connection to the context of environment and nature. In their practice, the artists use multidisciplinary forms, which include situationist interventions, workshops, and installations that serve as a platform for an environmental experience taking forms of public lounge, fully functional library, scientific laboratory, restaurant, red carpet VIP entrance, florist shop or a community garden, functioning as immersive environments for exploration and experience to address pressing contemporary issues.

Mildes have exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions including at the MoMA Studio, New York; Queens Museum, New York; NURTURE art, Brooklyn; EFA Project Space; New York; Wave Hill Sunroom Project Space, Bronx; Smack Mellon Gallery, Dumbo, Brooklyn; Anna Wallace Gallery, New York; Hudson Valley Center for  Contemporary Art (HVCCA), Peekskill; Temple Contemporary, Philadelphia; Space Gallery, Pittsburgh, Dumbo Street Festival, Brooklyn; Abrons Art Center, Lower Manhattan,  Knockdown Center, Queens; Silent Barn, Brooklyn; DOX Center for Contemporary Art; Futura Center for Contemporary Art; Meet Factory; Karlin Studios, Galerie Califia in the Czech Republic and in the  Blue Oyster Art Project Space,  New Zealand.

They have been awarded the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) Residency in 2017, Studio in the Park Residency at the Queens Museum in 2016, LMCC Process Space Residency 2016 at Governors Island, and Shift EFA Residency 2014 – 2015, A-Z West Residency in California in 2015, and the Russell Wright Design Center Residency, Garrison, NY in 2014. They presented and participated in panel discussions in venues such as tranzitdisplay, Pratt Institute, Bohemian National Hall, and Mildred’s Lane. Their work has been featured and reviewed in the New York Times, Brooklyn Rail, Flashart, Hyperallergic, Artribune, NYFA current, WG News, Artycok TV, and Czech National Television among others.  Their work is part of private and public collections including the permanent public installation at Chateau Trebesice, Czech Republic, Manitoga, Russell Wright Design Center, Garrison, NY, and Mildred’s Lane, PA.   From 2008 till 2015 they both worked at the Czech Center NY, a prominent Czech Cultural Institute on the Upper East Side, where they curated and organized a wide range of international programs, events, exhibitions, and residencies. In 2007 they received their MFAs from the Queens College, New York.
