Kristen Gudsnuk
Kristen Gudsnuk is a Queens, NY-based comic book artist and writer. She began self-publishing her comic series Henchgirl online in 2013 and at conventions in 2014. Along with illustrating the book series VIP for Little, Brown, Gudsnuk illustrated the graphic novella Toolbox, contributed to the anthology The Secret Loves of Geek Girls, and wrote for IDW. Henchgirl was released in trade paperback in March 2017 by Dark Horse Comics. Paste Magazine said Henchgirl "nails all the best parts of 'becoming an adult' bildungsromans," and Barnes and Noble chose Henchgirl as a top graphic novel pick. Bust Magazine said: "Gudsnuk’s wit shines through in the dialogue and her artwork shows a refreshing take on the typical comic drawing. A softer, more human-like protagonist promotes body positivity and shows not all heroes or animation have to look the same."
Gudsnuk's comics frequently focus on friendship, the crushing burden of reality, feminism, promoting multifaceted female characters, and poking holes into narrative and genre tropes. In residence, she is working on a middle grade graphic novel, which will be released in July 2018 from Graphix.
