Jesse Budel

Jesse Budel (b. 1991) is a composer-performer, sound artist and arts entrepreneur based in Adelaide, South Australia. He is currently a PhD candidate in Music Composition at Elder Conservatorium of Music (with an Australian Postgraduate Award), focussing on adapting the innovative field of soundscape ecology to compositional process, in order to produce creative works responding to engagement with specific places, and related ecosystems and soundscapes.

His works are for diverse media and spaces, ranging from acoustic concert instrumentation through to installation works, and have been performed by the Australian String Quartet, Corvus Ensemble and Elder Conservatorium Wind Orchestra.

In 2017, Jesse is undertaking an extensive professional development tour of the US and Canada in his research area of ecological music and sound art, supported by a Carclew Fellowship, Helpmann Academy Grant and Rural City of Murray Bridge Small Wins Grant.

As part of his ALN residency, he will be working on a number of extended pieces responding to the environments encountered on his travels so far, as well as a series of piano miniatures responding to North American trees (after Jean Sibelius' Op. 75, 'The Trees').
