Emma Shapiro

Emma Shapiro is an artist based out of Brooklyn, NY. Her work discusses history with and within the human body. Comprised primarily of Video, Documentation and Installation, the work employs the use of her own body in space. She views her work as based in drawing, movement, and events.

Emma was born in Virginia, and often returns to the Shenandoah Valley to work with the land, terrain, and weather. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design’s Painting Department, and spent the past 5 years working in the traditional art-making world as a figure model and arts administrator. She is showcased in the Experimental Drawing series at the historic Art Students League of New York, with workshops including “Gesture Mapping” and “Empathy and the Figure”.
